The Gombe State Small Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, led by General Manager Abubakar Puma, successfully organised a one-day capacity building workshop for its staff, Local Government Area WASH Coordinators, and Monitoring and Evaluation Officers.








The event, held at Gombe State University, was supported by the Gombe SURWASH Programme Coordination Unit as part of its institutional strengthening component.
In his opening remarks, the General Manager, STWASSA, welcomed participants and emphasized the workshop’s significance in enhancing their skills and knowledge as the agency prepares its work plan and implements projects.
Abubakar Puma commended His Excellency Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, for his foresight in creating STWASSA to bridge the gap in the WASH sector by ensuring that the small towns of the state are adequately catered for. He equally appreciated Engr. Usman Aliyu, Gombe SURWASH Programme Coordinator, for his leadership and support.
Expert resource persons Dr Adamu Jibir and Dr A.U. Yuguda delivered comprehensive presentations on SURWASH fundamentals, STWASSA’s mandates, project management, human resource management, risk navigation, and community participation in projects.
Ms. Belinda Elisha, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, SURWASH Gombe SPCU, representing the Programme Coordinator, delivered the closing remarks, encouraging participants to apply the knowledge gained to ensure smooth project implementation and increase access to water supply, sanitation, and hygiene practices in small towns. She urged LGA WASH Coordinators to be proactive in their duties.
Participants appreciated the opportunity to enhance their capacity and pledged to utilize the knowledge gained to deliver their mandates effectively, meeting World Bank standards for project implementation.
The workshop was attended by Assistant General Managers, Gombe SURWASH SPCU staff, and other key stakeholders.
