The Presidency has debunked reports suggesting that Senator George Akume has been removed as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), describing the claim as “fake news” orchestrated by “agents of mischief.”

In a statement issued on Friday, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Akume remains SGF and that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has not made any changes to that effect.

“There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” Onanuga clarified.

He further disclosed that the President, who is currently in Saint Lucia on a state visit, has not appointed anyone to replace Akume.

“The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it,” Onanuga stated.

He urged members of the public to ignore the rumours, noting that no official communication has been made about any such development.

“The Presidency advises Nigerians to disregard the fake news,” he said.
