A Northern commentator, Mallam Jabir, has accused those backing Tinubu’s presidency in the North of doing so solely for financial benefit, asserting that the support lacks any genuine public enthusiasm.
Posting on his official X account on Monday, Jabir described the president’s northern support base as a product of “transactional politics,” while hailing Peter Obi as a leader whose popularity is rising naturally among Nigerians.
“As a Northerner, let me tell you this reality. Anyone supporting @officialABAT in the North is being paid to do so, a clear indication of the transactional politics we’ve been reduced to,” he wrote.
He didn’t mince words in doubling down on his position, stating clearly: “I’m saying it again, anyone you see supporting Tinubu is doing it because of money.”
While criticizing Tinubu’s administration for what he sees as failure to address the nation’s key challenges, Jabir praised Labour Party’s Peter Obi for offering a credible alternative. He claimed Obi’s rising appeal is rooted in substance, not inducements.
“Meanwhile, @PeterObi is gaining genuine popularity and acceptability from the people due to his vision, leadership and commitment to a New Nigeria,” Jabir added.
He also issued a bold prediction about the 2027 general elections, saying Tinubu would be the easiest incumbent to defeat.
“Tinubu’s administration has failed to address our pressing issues, making him the easiest politician to defeat in 2027,” he said.
The post has stirred conversations online, especially among supporters of both political figures, with some echoing Jabir’s sentiments and others defending the government’s record.
Jabir ended his message with a rallying call: “Nigerians deserve better, and @PeterObi is the answer.”
