Ganduje, who served as Governor of Kano State from 2015 to 2023, said he stepped down to focus on his health, citing personal well-being as the primary reason for his resignation.

Ganduje assumed office as APC National Chairman in August 2023, during a period of deep internal divisions within the party. His leadership was often mired in controversy, and he faced criticism from several quarters over his handling of party affairs.

Though his resignation letter references health concerns, sources within the party suggest deeper political undercurrents may have influenced his decision. Allegations of financial impropriety and internal dissent reportedly fueled discontent among key stakeholders.

Notably, some party members accused Ganduje’s office of imposing excessive financial demands. Aspiring candidates for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) area council elections were said to have protested over high fees required to secure the party’s nomination ticket.

Ganduje’s abrupt exit signals a major shake-up in the APC’s leadership. As speculation swirls over the real reasons behind his departure, party members and observers await an official statement from the APC National Working Committee.

For now, the party’s next move remains uncertain, with expectations high that an acting chairman will be named pending a broader leadership review ahead of the 2027 general elections.
