2027: Coalition members say ADC alliance not about power grab, but national rescue
…..“We are not expired politicians; we have a track record,” says Senator Idris Umar
As preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, members of the newly formed political coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have reaffirmed their commitment to national development, saying their movement is not driven by personal ambition or desperation for power, but by a deep concern for Nigeria’s future.

Speaking on behalf of the coalition, former Minister of Transport under President Goodluck Jonathan, Senator Idris Umar, dismissed insinuations that the alliance was a gathering of disgruntled or outdated politicians.
Umar stressed that members of the coalition are individuals with proven records in public service and a genuine desire to rescue the country from its current challenges.
“This coalition is not about power grabbing; we are after Nigeria,” Umar said. “We want to put Nigeria on the path of success and rescue her from the current insecurity. That is what this coalition is about.”
Senator Umar emphasized that the group comprises technocrats, former public office holders, and grassroots mobilizers who have delivered results in their respective fields. “We have served at one point or the other. Personally, I worked on the rail project under President Jonathan. We have legacy projects like the Almajiri school initiative and others. These are not empty credentials,” he stated.
Refuting labels that portray the coalition as a refuge for political outcasts, Umar said, “It’s not about people who are aggrieved, expired, or who don’t have anything to offer. We have a lot to offer. Many of us are people who have performed well in one area or the other when we served.”
According to him, the essence of democracy is rooted in viable opposition and credible alternatives. “Democracy thrives on opposition. You must have opposition, and in the end, the voters are the judge,” he noted.
On the possibility of failure, Senator Umar remained optimistic, describing the coalition as a “carefully crafted alliance” of patriotic Nigerians from across the political spectrum. “I don’t know about coalitions that failed in the past. What I know is that this coalition is made up of committed individuals from Labour Party, APC, SDP, and others, who all came together to choose ADC as the platform.”
He expressed confidence that the coalition would not only contest the 2027 elections but also emerge victorious, with the hope of steering Nigeria toward unity, peace, and progress.
On his part, Chairman of ADC Auwal Barde said, “Key stakeholders have been meeting with various political parties at the end of the day ADC was adopted as party of choice.”
Barde disclosed that ADC has become a convergence to rescuing the country, adding “However, an agreement, understanding was reached which culminated into the unveiling of the ADC. Let me emphasis that we have consideration of our desire and motive to ensure success and massive recruitment of people in this party.
He continued saying “Former Deputy Governor John Lazarus Yoriyo-led committee of eminent personalities is to partner with the leadership of the ADC in Gombe State.”
