A coalition of political advocacy groups under the umbrella of the Alliance for Good Governance has thrown its weight behind efforts to unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State and at the national level ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The coalition, which comprises over 100 affiliated grassroots organisations, made its position known during a strategy meeting held in Gombe on Tuesday.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Ahmed Haruna, the convener and coordinator of the alliance, emphasised that unity among opposition stakeholders was crucial to ending what he described as years of failed governance by the APC.
He said, “We’ve come to a point in our political journey where forming a strong coalition is no longer optional—it is a necessity.
“The APC has had enough time to prove itself, but instead of progress, what we see is deepening poverty, insecurity, and economic hardship.”
According to Haruna, the ruling party has not lived up to its promises of providing good governance, and Nigerians are bearing the brunt of what he called “anti-people policies” that have crippled livelihoods across the country.
He continued, “The hardship in this country today is not accidental—it’s a direct result of poor leadership. That’s why we are not just supporting the coalition movement; we are actively mobilizing. With over 108 active groups across Gombe, we’re committed to building a united front to rescue our state and Nigeria from this decline.”
Haruna added that the alliance would begin grassroots sensitisation campaigns aimed at increasing political awareness and encouraging voter participation ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Our people need to know they have the power to change their future. We must work together—community leaders, youth groups, women, and professionals—to bring that change through the ballot,” he said.
He called on other political stakeholders and civil society groups to join the movement, insisting that “the future of Nigeria depends on how united we are in confronting bad governance.”
