The residents of Taraba state have urged leaders of the coalition Action Democratic Congress (ADC), to shelve their personal interest and bring former President Goodluck Jonathan to fly the party’s flag for the 2027 presidential election.
The residents told our correspondent on Sunday during separate conversation in Jalingo that the former president would be the only sure way to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming presidential election.
According to them, every topical northerner will be conscious of the political zoning arrangements in the 2031 presidential election that normally supposed to be zoned to the north after two terms of a southerner.
“Coalition will win against Tinubu with no stress, if former president Goodluck Jonathan is given the presidential ticket. We wish to appeal to leaders of the party to shave their personal interest and focus on strategies that will enable the party win against Tinubu.
“What Nigerians want is positive change, different from that of the APC. Nigerian will be careful of candidate from all political parties, especially those from the south. If another southern win against Tinubu, he will insist for a second term. We do not want to move from a frying pan to fire.
“Goodluck Jonathan will be the best option for Nigerians to vote for the Coalition especially the northerners. They will know that the former president will only serve for one term”. The residents, Mr. Clement Yakubu Tyokyaa Tar, Haruna Buba, Sadiq Maigeri and Sabastin Tsukwa, preempted.
They also asserted that life will return to the days of greatness where a common Nigerian was able to feed his family.
“We want to remind leaders of the coalition that the former president would be the only candidate that the entire North will accept without fear. Aside been a person we believe will change the Nigerian story of hardship to great, every northerners will prefer a candidate that will only serve for four years.
“Like Johnathan, like Tinubu, both leaders can only serve for a single term of four years as stipulated in the Nigeria constitution. It will be difficult to convince a northerner to vote for either Peter Obi or Amaechi. This is not as if they are bad, or they will be bad leaders, but the north will be careful of the 2031 presidential election,” they insisted.
