The recent conflict between Iran and Israel is more of a political struggle than a religious one. The involvement of Western powers is evident—it doesn’t take rocket science to see the dynamics at play.

The United States plays a significant role in modern global conflicts, often prioritizing its own strategic interests in areas such as security, stability, economics, and diplomacy—even when it means imposing sanctions, tariffs, or supporting authoritarian regimes and human rights violations.

21 September 2024, Lebanon, Beirut: Civil Defense workers are seen at the site of the Israeli air raid attack in Beirut southern suburb. The death toll from the Israeli attack on Beirut’s southern suburbs, a hotbed of the pro-Iranian Hezbollah movement, has risen to 31, authorities said on 21 September. Among the dead were three children and seven women, Lebanese Health Minister Firas Abiad said in a press conference. Photo: Marwan Naamani/dpa

For example, the recent trade conflict with China and the unwavering U.S. support for Israel—even in the face of international law violations and alleged human rights abuses—highlight this pattern clearly.

To speak the truth, the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC)—the United States, Russia, France, China, and the United Kingdom—all possess nuclear weapons. Why? Because they fought in the Second World War and were instrumental in restoring global peace. However, it’s also worth noting that countries like Pakistan and India now possess nuclear weapons as well.

As an analyst, it is important to understand the dynamics between nations like Israel and Iran.

Iran signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and allows international inspections of its nuclear facilities by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). In contrast, Israel has not signed the NPT and refuses to allow international inspections of its nuclear facilities. Why? Because the U.S. government would never allow such scrutiny of its closest Middle East ally.

Israel’s survival in conventional warfare depends heavily on the support of countries like the United States, France, and the United Kingdom, which provide substantial financial and military assistance. This raises tough questions about America’s deep involvement in the ongoing tensions.

The Iran-Israel conflict reflects ideological, political, and economic tensions reminiscent of the Cold War rivalry between the U.S. and the former Soviet Union. The recent American raid on an Iranian nuclear site was not just a tactical strike—it was an attempt to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, despite Iran’s signed agreements.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has appealed for a ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel, which was reportedly signed on June 24, 2025, in a bid to restore peace in the Middle East.
