The Emir of Damaturu Emirate, Alhaji Shehu Hashimi II Ibn Umar Al-Amin El-Kanemi, has turbaned Dr. Mahmoud Bukar Maina as the Shettima Ilumuye of Damaturu.



The ceremony, which was held in a grand style at the Emir’s Palace was attended by prominent dignitaries, including government officials, traditional leaders, and members of the academic community, was also graced by the presence of this year’s faculty members of the 5th BioRTC Summer School.
In his congratulatory message, the Emir of Damaturu, said the turbaning of Dr. Mahmoud Bukar Maina as Shettima Ilumuye of Damaturu is a significant recognition of his contributions to education and research.





It is also a testament to the Emirate’s commitment to promoting education and development in the region. “As Dr. Maina embarks on this new role, we have no doubt that he will leverage his expertise and experience to make a positive impact on the lives of the people. We congratulate him on this well-deserved honor and wish him continued success in his endeavors”.
The Emir royal father then prayed for Dr Maina’s continued success and blessings in all his endeavours.



In his response, Maina expressed his gratitude to the Emir for turbaning him, he described it as the most significant recognition among the numerous awards he has received worldwide. He pledged to continue promoting education and research in the region and other parts of the world, leveraging his expertise to make a positive impact on the lives of the people and thanked the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni for the support he has given him.
Also speaking, Zannah Gargamma of Damaturu Emirate, Zannah Baba Buji Gana said Dr. Mahmoud Bukar Maina as the Founder and Director of BioRTC and Special Adviser on Science, Research and Innovation, he is always at the forefront of advancing education and promoting research in Yobe State. His dedication to developing the next generation of scientists and researchers has earned him recognition and accolades from far and wide.
He said the appointment of Maina as Shettima Ilumuye is a significant milestone in the history of the Damaturu Emirate, and it is expected to have a positive impact on the development of education in the region.
He noted that the title of Shettima Ilumuye is not just an honor; it comes with immense responsibility. As the ambassador and adviser on education to the Emir, Dr Maina is expected to provide expert advice and guidance on matters related to educational development in the region.
Zannah Buji said he is also expected to leverage his expertise to promote education and research, thereby contributing to the growth and development of the state.
Also speaking, one of the faculties of the 5th BioRTC Summer School, Prof Miguel Maraval from the University of Sussex, England describes the appointment of Dr. Mahmoud as well deserves considering his contribution to the promotion of science, research and innovation across Africa
