The frenzy, scramble and partition of the Nigerian political space by the political elites come 2027 general elections, is in the top gear.

While the ruling Party, APC, has since relegated governance to shopping and poaching for governors and key opposition politicians to join their frail, the self immolated PDP, has risen from her ashes of confusion to call on the remnants of her members “to join the Coalition”.

• Mark and Aregbesola

In a communique issued from the meeting of concerned leaders of the PDP held at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja on Tuesday 1st July, 2025, they declared as it’s primary concern, that “The APC government, which came into being on false and evil propaganda, to save Nigeria from PDP is now a disaster to our nation and therefore must be voted out of power”

Just like that? So the only reason for one political party to replace another in the governance of our nation at the centre, has been pitifully reduced to looking for a descriptive pejorative to hang on each other’s neck and that’s all? Wonderful! Interestingly, this has been the trend in recent times such that every four years, our political elites think of nothing else than forming coalitions to grab power from the center.

Even within the so-called established political parties, politicians who lost out of the power equation are not patient or loyal enough to remain in the party to contribute to the development of such platforms but would rather go for selfish alternatives to satisfy their restless appetite. This was how the ruling Party, APC, of today came in too.

The animosity, as at then, was intense against President Goodluck Jonathan and the only known alternative by these same disgruntled elites, was to remove him by all known conventional and unconventional means. And here we are today, bedevilled by increased insecurity in all its multidimensional implications.

It is interesting to know that in all these political freaks, twists and turns, no one is thinking about the larger Nigerian people, the masses, who manage to barely survive, stripped of their meager purchasing power in an economy fraught with missteps and a currency that goes up and down like a thermometer.

If it is true, retired Brig-General David Mark, one of the longest serving Senate Presidents in the fourth Republic, and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola of “the State of Osun”, a former governor and Minister, are heading the recent coalition movement housed by the ADC Party. The people are yet to know their economic blueprint for the nation or what they intend to do differently from the APC led administration, outside the advertised desperation of the sheer desires to grab power.

And this is how our problems begin. It is politics and all politics; devoid of any iota of consideration for the larger population of the suffering masses. We must learn to ask questions and interrogate the intentions of those who want to conscript us into their game and gain.

They must show us something different from what seems to be looking like a deja vu all the time. Let them show us the difference, this time around, between what looks like six and half a dozen.
