Chief Bulus Maiyaki, a former Commissioner for Finance in Taraba State, has denied widespread speculation that retired General T.Y. Danjuma is sponsoring him to contest the 2027 Taraba South senatorial seat.
The former commissioner dismissed the claims in a statement issued on Thursday by the Chief Bulus Maiyaki Senatorial Consultative Forum.
In the statement signed by the forum’s spokesperson, Emmanuel Umaru, the group described the rumours as unfounded and urged the general public to disregard them.
“Gen. T.Y. Danjuma has neither endorsed nor is sponsoring Chief Bulus Maiyaki for the 2027 Taraba South senatorial seat,” the statement read. “Though we are making wide consultations with positive responses from the people, this development is not through the sponsorship or endorsement of Gen. T.Y. Danjuma.”
“The elder statesman is not sponsoring Chief Maiyaki. These claims are deliberate efforts to mislead the public and create political confusion. We are receiving genuine grassroots political support for Maiyaki, and it is not based on any sponsorship as being speculated.”
The forum noted that community leaders, youth groups, and political stakeholders from across the senatorial zone have already expressed willingness to back Chief Maiyaki’s candidature, should he decide to contest.

“Chief Maiyaki’s wide acceptability in the southern senatorial district of Taraba is based on his track record as a former Commissioner and as a Director of Procurement at the Rural Electrification Agency (REA),” the statement continued.
“Chief Maiyaki has facilitated several electrification projects across Taraba South, extending reliable energy access to communities that had long been underserved. His involvement in expanding solar energy solutions, installing critical power infrastructure, and supporting agricultural productivity through renewable energy sources has drawn commendation from various quarters.”
The forum concluded by reiterating that Chief Maiyaki has not officially declared his intention to run for Senate and has not been endorsed or sponsored by Gen. T.Y. Danjuma.
“Chief Maiyaki’s grassroots support is based on his personal contributions to community development in the southern senatorial district of Taraba,” the statement emphasized.
