The Vice Chancellor of Abdulkadir Kure University (AKUM), Professor Mohammed Aliyu Paiko, has declared the institution as the fastest-growing public university in Nigeria.

Professor Paiko made the assertion on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Niger State Council, at his office in Minna.
This was contained in a press statement signed by Abubakar Kuta, Assistant General Secretary of Niger State NUJ.
According to him, the university, which began academic activities in 2024 with just 100 students, now has an enrolment of over 700, with more students currently undergoing registration.
“Abdulkadir Kure University is matching towards greatness. In just one year, our student population has grown significantly, and we are projecting even higher growth in the coming sessions,” the Vice Chancellor stated.
He further revealed that over 3,500 applications have already been received for the 2025/2026 academic session, describing the figure as proof of the university’s rising profile.
“In line with our policy of expansion, the university is emerging as a centre of entrepreneurship and specialized education. Through initiatives such as the Abdulkadir Kure Centre for Basic and Professional Studies and the GreenTech ICT Hub, we are opening more avenues for collaboration with professional bodies, especially the media,” Paiko explained.
Earlier, the NUJ Niger State Chairman, Comrade Abu Nmodu, said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the journalists’ union and the institution.
He stressed the vital role of the media in nation-building through information, education, enlightenment, and entertainment.
“At NUJ, we are running educational programmes in media and journalism under the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ) at the IBB Pen House, Minna. Our union is committed to supporting Abdulkadir Kure University in its mission to provide quality education and achieve its set goals,” Comrade Nmodu assured.
