The African Democratic Congress in Gombe State on Monday threw its weight behind former Senate President David Mark as the party’s national leader ahead of the 2027 general elections, while issuing a stern warning to its former gubernatorial candidate, Nafiu Bala, to stop parading himself as national chairman or risk expulsion.
The decision was announced by ADC State Chairman, Auwal Barde, shortly after a meeting of party executives from all 11 local government areas of the state.
Barde said the resolution to stand firmly behind Mark was unanimous.
“We in Gombe are not aware of, and do not support, any leadership other than Senator David Mark,” he declared.
Continuing Barde added, “We have warned our member who is parading himself as the national chairman to retrace his steps or face expulsion from the party. He was our gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 elections, but after the polls, he disappeared, only to resurface now, making baseless claims.”
Describing Nafiu Bala as a “lost member who appeared from nowhere,” the chairman said the ADC in Gombe would not allow “a single member making noise and trying to cause setbacks” to derail its agenda.
According to him, the party is now focused on forging a strong political alliance to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. This includes active consultations with influential stakeholders and prospective candidates, such as former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Pantami.
“We are engaging all relevant players, from governorship hopefuls to senatorial and House of Representatives aspirants, to ensure we form a united front capable of salvaging Nigeria,” Barde said.
