Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, on Thursday harped the contributions of the youths towards nation building, saying that it cannot be underestimated.
He expressed the need for government at all levels to prioritise the welfare and social security of the younger generation for a sustainable economic development.
The Governor gave this indication while addressing youth organisations across state who were at the Government House to mark the National Youth Week celebration.
Represented by the Secretary to Government of Gombe State, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, the governor observed that the youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow but the driving force of today and the foundation upon which the nation thrives.
“Since 2019 we have always believe that investing in our youth is investing in our future that is why we have made youth inclusion the corner stone of our administration from appointing youth people into key positions of responsibility making ours one of the most youth inclusive government in Nigeria,” he said.
He said his administration has invested heavily in environmental conservation, the transport sector and small and medium scale industry in which the bulk of its operators are youth.
Yahaya expressed confidence that when fully operational, the Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park will have the capacity of employing over 50,000 youths while repositioning the economic fortune of the state.
The National Convener Youth 0’clock, Seth Francis, appealed to government at all levels in the country to create the right opportunities and platforms for the Nigerian youths to attain their full potential.
The National Convener Youth 0’clock equally appealed to the youths not to allow themselves to be used as political thugs describing “such action as dangerous to their personality and injurious to the nation’s democracy,” he added.
He expressed gratitude to Governor Yahaya for receiving them at the government house calling on the youth in Gombe State to always stand in solidarity with the policies and programmes of the present administration in the state.
On his part, State Coordinator 0’clock Abdulaziz Labaran, noted that the National Youth Week Celebration provides the avenue for youths to voice their concerns and challenges faced by them with a view to seeking government intervention.
In their separate remarks, Chairman voluntary uniform organisations, Mahdi Aminu, Gombe State Student Association President Comrade Mohammed Al’amin, and the state commander of Nigeria Forest security service NFSS Hussaini Bappa appreciated the support of the current administration to various organisations in the state
While appealing for more of such support in form of operational vehicles, and upward review of scholarship for students in tertiary institutions to meet with the current economic challenges.
