The Gombe State Youth Parliament on Thursday ushered in a new leadership team, with Aliyu Danladi chosen as Speaker of the third parliament.
Danladi, who represents Gombe South, was nominated by Auwal Umar and his candidacy was seconded by Ahmed Isiyaku from Funakaye South. He will steer the parliament alongside Liatu Asaph Lewi, who emerged as Deputy Speaker.
In his acceptance speech, Danladi pledged to use his new position to advance the interests of young people in the state.
“This mandate is not about me, but about the voice of the youths of Gombe State. We will champion inclusiveness in governance, open doors for skill development and empowerment, and take a strong stand against the scourge of drug abuse among our young population,” he added.
The new Speaker extended appreciation to Governor Muhammadu Yahaya for what he described as “consistent support and youth-friendly policies” that continue to give young people opportunities to thrive.
“We are grateful to His Excellency for always believing in the capacity of the youths. This parliament will not take that confidence for granted,” Danladi noted.
He also commended the Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly for formally recognising the youth parliament, describing the gesture as “a catalyst for deeper engagement and participation in governance.”
The election was supervised by the Gombe State House of Assembly in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Development, underscoring the state government’s efforts to institutionalise youth voices in decision-making processes.
