Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has hinted at a possible joint ticket with his Oyo State counterpart, Governor Seyi Makinde, in the 2027 presidential election, describing the idea as a “perfect match” for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking in Bauchi on Wednesday during a media interaction, Mohammed said both he and Makinde represent the kind of leadership the country needs to address its current challenges and restore confidence in governance.
The governor noted that while no formal decision has been taken by the PDP on its presidential flagbearer, he believes his partnership with Makinde would symbolise unity across regional, ethnic, and generational lines.
“Governor Makinde is one of the shining lights of our party. He represents youth, innovation, and progressive governance, while I bring experience, maturity, and bridge-building capacity. Together, we will make a perfect match that can rescue Nigeria in 2027,” Mohammed said.
He stressed that the PDP must be strategic in its choice of candidates for the next general election, particularly against the backdrop of what he described as “the mounting economic and security challenges confronting Nigerians.”
According to him, Nigerians are yearning for credible leadership that can heal divisions, grow the economy, and create opportunities for the younger generation.
While dismissing speculations that internal party wrangling might derail the PDP ahead of 2027, Mohammed insisted that the party remains strong and capable of returning to power if unity of purpose is sustained.
He also praised Makinde’s performance in Oyo State, describing him as a visionary leader whose achievements in education, infrastructure, and youth empowerment have placed him among the most respected governors in the country.
Although Mohammed stopped short of confirming whether consultations were already ongoing within the PDP regarding a joint ticket, he hinted that “when the time comes, Nigerians will see the seriousness of our commitment to rescue the nation.”
