A Nigerian identified as Vivian (@VivianRora) has sparked intense conversation on X after calling on British authorities to deport Nigerians in the UK who openly support what she described as “bad governance” in Nigeria.
Tagging the leader of the UK Conservative party, Kemi Badenoch, in her post on X (formerly Twitter), Vivian said, “@KemiBadenoch There are Nigerians in the UK openly supporting bad governance back home. I have written down a few names, happy to email them to you. Please help send them back to Nigeria so they can enjoy the government they are defending.”
Her post triggered a flurry of reactions from fellow Nigerians, many of whom supported her call, expressing frustration over diaspora citizens who back the Tinubu-led administration from the comfort of more stable countries.
One user, @OracleAyo, advised, “Just write a petition to the home office, and tweet where they are abusive or any bigot-related tweet, their names, pictures, location, and screenshot of the tweet. It will be verified, sha, but who knows they might be here on ground with us to enjoy their government.” Another user, @MrDonPc, suggested creating a public database: “We should make this a thing. Have a live list, and keep updating it. Not sure how much that will help, but we can at least name and shame those supporting bad government back home Nigeria.”
@Ugochukwu_96 expressed support in a lighter tone: “I support you like mad. They cannot be in the UK and be standing on mandate in Nigeria. They need to be in Nigeria for full representation.”
The post also touched off debate around the legitimacy of dual national loyalty and the ethical implications of benefiting from good governance abroad while cheering dysfunction at home.
Vivian’s remark echoes a broader sentiment among diaspora citizens who see a stark disconnect between their experiences overseas and the hardship endured by many Nigerians under the current administration.
