The Office for Strategic Preparedness and Resilience has signed a  Memorandum of Understanding with Operation Safe Corridor Nigeria to boost non-kinetic strategies for peace and security across the country.

OPSC is responsible for the operation of Deradicalisation, Rehabilitation and Reintegration of repentant Boko Haram members stationed in Malam Sidi Gombe State.

The pact, sealed between OSPRE Director General, Chris Ngwodo, and OPSC Coordinator, Brig.-Gen. Yusuf Ali, aims to standardise approaches in disarmament, deradicalisation, rehabilitation and reintegration of ex-combatants, as well as support post-conflict recovery in affected communities.

This was contained in a press statement signed on Friday by Hafsa Matazu, OSPRE programme manager obtained by our correspondent.

The MoU is expected to also advance victim-centred initiatives, including transitional and restorative justice, trauma recovery, and capacity building for peace and security institutions.

“A holistic approach is needed in which all critical stakeholders are partners with OPSC to achieve our common objectives.

“We are optimistic this signing will open a new chapter in combating insecurity and building lasting peace in Nigeria,” the statement added.

On his part, Ngwodo said the deal aligns perfectly with OSPRE’s mission, “We’re not confronting conventional warfare. We have to evolve the tools we use in fighting asymmetrical conflicts.”

He continued saying, “Operation Safe Corridor is at the very forefront of developing such tools, and we are keen to begin our joint work to advance the peace and security of our country.”
