Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has mourned the death of Ruth Otabor, sister to Big Brother Naija winner, Phyna, describing it as a needless tragedy caused by the “cutthroat and irresponsible corporate conduct” of Dangote truck drivers.

Phyna had earlier announced the passing of her sister, a young graduate, who reportedly died in an accident involving a Dangote truck.
In a condolence message on Saturday, Sowore expressed grief over the incident, commiserating with Phyna and the entire Otabor family.
“A sad moment has struck. A beautiful life has been cut short by the cutthroat and irresponsible corporate conduct of Dangote truck drivers,” Sowore said.
He stressed that Ruth’s death was avoidable and blamed poor corporate responsibility, bad roads, and the lack of emergency response for worsening the tragedy.
“This death was not inevitable—it could have been prevented. It could have been avoided if drivers were properly trained, if Nigeria’s terrible roads were fixed, and if after the accident, there had been timely and humane intervention,” he stated.
The activist lamented that powerful corporations in the country often escape accountability while families are left to bear the pain.
“Instead, another family is left grieving, another young life wasted, and another reminder is written in blood that Nigeria continues to fail its people while powerful corporations escape accountability,” Sowore added.
He prayed for the repose of the deceased and called for justice.
“May Ruth’s soul rest in peace, and may her death strengthen the call for justice,” he said.
