The political scene in Anambra State has taken a dramatic turn as the First Lady, Mrs Nonye Soludo, wife of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, issued a direct challenge to Senator Uche Ekwunife, calling on her to take a solemn oath of fidelity and chastity in a Catholic cathedral.
In a strongly worded statement, Mrs. Soludo referenced Senator Ekwunife’s declaration of being a “converted Catholic,” insisting that both women should put their integrity to the ultimate test before the Church and God.
“Since Uche Ekwunife claims to be a converted Catholic, I challenge her for both of us to swear an oath of fidelity and chastity at any Cathedral in front of the Blessed Sacrament. You mentioned screenshotting someone’s name and putting in your Bible. So, you must know the efficacy of the Holy Book,” Mrs. Soludo declared.
Going further, the Anambra First Lady stressed that she was willing to put her life and family on the line to prove her faithfulness in marriage, daring the senator to do the same.
“We should also add the Bible with the Sacrament. I will swear (with my children) that in my 55 years on earth, I have known only one man—Chukwuma Soludo. On your part, you should also swear (with your children or your political ambitions) that since you got married, you have never cheated on your husband. Let us do this between now and mid-October 2025,” she added.
The remarks have sparked heated debate in political and religious circles, with many questioning the appropriateness of bringing faith-based oaths into public disputes, while others argue that such a challenge reflects the intensity of personal and political rivalries in the state.
As the drama unfolds, attention now shifts to Senator Ekwunife to see whether she will respond to the First Lady’s daring challenge or dismiss it as political theatrics.
