There are strong indications that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, may soon resume her legislative duties following weeks of tension and uncertainty.

On Monday, the office of the embattled lawmaker was officially unsealed by the Sergeant-at-Arms of the National Assembly in the company of combined security personnel, signaling a possible resolution to the impasse that had trailed her return to the Senate.

The unsealing exercise, which drew the attention of both staff and visitors at the National Assembly complex, comes amid reports of frictions over her resumption following political and legal challenges that had kept her away from her official duties.

Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been at the centre of controversy since her election victory was contested and subjected to prolonged legal battles. While the Court of Appeal had earlier affirmed her mandate, lingering political undercurrents within the National Assembly reportedly stalled her immediate return to legislative functions.

With the reopening of her office, sources within the Senate hinted that the move is a precursor to her full reintegration into parliamentary activities.

> “This is a procedural step to pave the way for her resumption. Once the office is unsealed, administrative and legislative processes can follow,” a senior legislative aide explained.

Observers say the development could ease tensions between Akpoti-Uduaghan’s supporters and political opponents, who have traded accusations over attempts to keep her out of the Red Chamber despite judicial pronouncements in her favour.

Her return is expected to add momentum to debates around Kogi politics, women’s representation in the legislature, and the balance of power between ruling and opposition parties in the Senate.
