Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of Gombe State has approved the removal of Mr Babaji Babadidi as Executive Chairman of the Gombe State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
A statement issued on Friday by the Director-General, Press Affairs, Government House, Gombe, Ismaila Misilli, said the disengagement takes effect from October 31, 2025, and was in line with the powers conferred on the governor under Section 22 (4) of the Gombe State Universal Basic Education Board (Amendment) Law, 2011.

The statement partly read, “the governor has appointed Associate Professor Esrom Toro Jokthan as the new Executive Chairman of SUBEB with immediate effect.”
According to the statement, the new appointee is a “seasoned academic and education administrator” expected to bring his “vast experience and professional insight to bear in consolidating the gains recorded by the Inuwa Yahaya administration in the basic education sub-sector.”
Governor Yahaya expressed appreciation to the outgoing chairman for his service to the state and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ongoing reforms in the education sector.
“The present administration remains committed to sustaining reforms and improvements in the education sector, which is a key pillar of our human capital development agenda,” the statement added.
The governor expressed confidence that Professor Jokthan would provide effective leadership at the board and advance the government’s goal of delivering inclusive and quality education to all children in Gombe State.
“We are confident that the new SUBEB Executive Chairman will leverage his wealth of experience to enhance the delivery of quality, inclusive, and accessible basic education across the state,” the statement concluded.
