A non-governmental organisation, the Okpara-Osim Foundation has completed a training program on poultry farming for young Nigerians in six states across the country
The states include Ebonyi, Anambra, Cross River, Enugu, Delta, and Edo.
According to the organisation, the exercise marked the successful completion of the second phase of its mega outreach program in the southeast and South South region of Nigeria.
“This phase marks a major shift in the Foundation’s empowerment strategy, moving from the previous focus on seedlings and fingerlings distribution to large-scale poultry empowerment for household farmers,” they said
The NGO noted that over a span of three days, beginning on the 3rd of October,the Foundation distributed day-old chicks, alongside feeds and veterinary drugs, empowering rural farmers and households to engage in sustainable poultry production.
“In addition to the agricultural empowerment, the Foundation has also successfully formed a rugby team ahead of the forthcoming national rugby tournament in Abuja, demonstrating its commitment to youth development through sports,” it added
Recall that the foundation earlier conducted its first-ever mega outreach in several northern states — Jigawa, Yobe, and Borno. During that exercise, various relief materials, including clothing, fingerlings, and seeds, were distributed to flood-affected victims in Maiduguri, alongside training programs aimed at rebuilding livelihoods, and designated northern states will be visited soon.
The foundation said it remained steadfast in its mission to empower communities, alleviate poverty, and promote sustainable development across Nigeria.
