Authorities in Borno State have dispelled rumours surrounding a panic incident reported on Monday evening at Government Girls College, Maiduguri, assuring residents that security agencies immediately restored order at the school.
According to the Borno State Ministry of Information and Internal Security, the situation was swiftly brought under control following a coordinated response by security operatives.
A government delegation led by the Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, visited the school shortly after the incident to calm students, parents, and staff.
“We moved in immediately to assess the situation and reassure the school community. There is absolutely no cause for alarm,” Wakilbe said during the visit.
Also on the delegation were the Chief Adviser on Sustainable Development, Dr. Mairo Mandara, and the Special Adviser on Media, Comrade Dauda Iliya, who both stressed that the state government remains committed to the safety of students across all schools.
Dr. Mandara noted, “The wellbeing of our children is a priority. We are working closely with all relevant stakeholders to ensure their safety at all times.”
The Ministry added that it has been working closely with the military and other security agencies to strengthen surveillance and forestall any further panic within Maiduguri metropolis.
Speaking on the spread of false reports, the Directorate of Home Affairs and Internal Security urged residents to remain vigilant and verify information before sharing.
“Members of the public are advised to disregard any fake news circulating about the incident. If anyone observes suspicious activity, they should immediately report to the nearest military or security formation,” the Directorate said.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and security across all educational institutions.
