Some members of the Ogun State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), have urged Comrade Wale Victor Olanrewaju, Chairman of state Council of NUJ to “account for the alleged missing of N5Million meant for NAWOJ, given to the association by the Ogun State Government.

Members of the Union said that the allegations leveled against the council Chairman shouldn’t be swept under the carpet in the name of setting up of Disciplinarian Committee to look into the matters, urging the Chairman, Comrade Olanrewaju to identify those responsible for the diverted or missappropriated fund.
They also urged the council Chairman to hand them over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for appropriate prosecution
The members of the Ogun State NUJ council further urged the Chairman, Comrade Olanrewaju to ensure the full recovery and return of the diverted or missappropriated N5million to the normal NAWOJ treasury account without any further delay.
It should be recalled that in the allegation letter dated 12th November, 2025, and signed by NAWOJ’S Assistant Secretary, Adejoke Adeleye, the Secretary, Omobolaji Adekunle and the Auditor, Ajibike Adekunle respectively indicted the Chairman of culpable in the diverted and missappropriated funds meant for NAWOJ.
The allegation letter indicted Chairman of conniving with exco members of providing the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) certificate of the Union to open an illegal account with Fidelity Bank, with Account number/details: 4110123100 on December, 2023, and diverted the money into the account for personal gains.
“Indeed, the allegations have undermined the growth, progress and development of the union as whole, trapped the majority of NUJ members untrained and deprived them of opportunities.
“The diverted or missappropriated of the union’s funds/revenues reflect a failure of NUJ exco accountability more generally and are directly linked to the Union’s continuing failure to uphold the principles of transparency and accountability for close to three years now or thereabouts.” NUJ members said.
They urged the elders and leadership of the council, including the national level to come to their rescue and librate them from the grips of Comrade Olanrewaju and his exco, noting that they need the full financial record/account of the council with any further delay.
“In fact, we are all in dark darkness all these while, all the shops, hotel and rentage apartment in the custody of the union, they can not account for the members, even at the congress level, whenever you asked them, they will refute to the claims of embezzlements, until now, nobody knows about all these.”
