Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola, popularly known as FRYO, has clinched the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket for the 2026 Osun State election, following a landslide victory at the party’s primary held on Tuesday in Osogbo.

The exercise, which took place under a heavy security presence to ensure order and transparency, drew delegates from all 30 local government areas and the area office. Party faithful thronged the venue from the early hours, signalling the importance of the contest as the PDP positions itself for what it describes as a “rescue mission” ahead of 2026.

Announcing the result, the returning officer said Adebayo secured 919 votes out of the 957 valid accredited ballots, a margin that placed him far ahead of other aspirants and underscored the broad confidence reposed in him by party stakeholders.
Party leaders described the outcome as a reflection of the PDP’s unity and readiness to reclaim the state. They expressed optimism that Adebayo’s emergence would energise the base, strengthen mobilisation efforts, and set the tone for what they predict will be a decisive outing at the polls.
Celebrations erupted shortly after the declaration as supporters chanted victory songs, describing their candidate as a “bridge between the party and the people,” while urging residents of Osun State to look forward to what they called a “fresh, people-focused leadership approach.”
With the primary now concluded, the PDP says it is “cruising to victory in 2026,” adding that its campaign machinery will immediately swing into action to consolidate structures ahead of the governorship election.
Adebayo is expected to formally address supporters and unveil his campaign plans in the coming days.
