The Office of the Vice President (Special Duties) of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove Minister Abdullahi Ata from office, citing what it described as “persistent incompetence, poor leadership capacity, and a consistent failure to deliver on the core responsibilities of his office.”
The statement was signed by Comrade Abubakar Ahmad Mallawa, National Vice President (Special Duties), National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
In a statement issued on Friday, NANS said that “despite repeated expectations and appeals from the Nigerian public and key stakeholders, the Minister has continued to exhibit a troubling lack of direction, accountability, and measurable impact, especially in sectors that directly affect citizens and students across the country.”
According to the association, “such a level of underperformance is unacceptable in an administration that campaigned on renewed hope and effective governance.”
The student body stressed that its position “is not driven by partisan or political considerations,” adding that “our demand is anchored solely on the urgent need for competence, transparency, and results in public service.”
“Nigeria cannot afford to be burdened with public officials who fall short of the basic standards required to understand, represent, and effectively serve the people,” the statement said.
NANS therefore called on President Tinubu to “take decisive action in the overriding interest of national development and public confidence by reviewing the Minister’s continued stay in office.”
