Non-governmental organisations advocating good governance have called on the Mandate Secretary of the Youth and Sports Secretariat, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Hon. Lawan Kolo Geidam, to contest the Yobe State governorship election in 2027.
The call was made by the State Coordinator of the Youths Democratic Enlightenment for Good Governance, Comrade Adamu Hussaini Yunusa, while addressing journalists at the Youth Leadership and Legacy Summit held in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.
Yunusa said the decision followed extensive consultations with coordinators from 178 wards and the 17 local government areas of the state.
According to him, Yobe State requires a leader with a proven track record in public administration, grassroots politics and youth empowerment to sustain development across the state.
“Hon. Lawan Kolo Geidam has worked at different levels of government, starting as a local government chairman and rising to the position of Permanent Secretary (Political) in the state government, before his appointment as Mandate Secretary of the Youth and Sports Secretariat, FCTA,” he said.
Yunusa noted that Geidam has consistently championed youth education, skills acquisition and entrepreneurship, helping many young people secure sustainable careers in business, the civil service and non-governmental organisations.
“After extensive consultations and careful consideration of his experience, integrity and commitment to youth inclusion, we unanimously agree that he is the right person for the job. We are therefore calling on him to contest the governorship,” he added.
He further stated that Yobe youths believe Geidam possesses the vision and connections needed to attract investments and partnerships that would strengthen infrastructure and drive economic growth in the state.
Responding on behalf of the Mandate Secretary, a close associate, Hon. Adamu Yahaya Alabura, expressed appreciation to the group for the call.
Alabura assured that the message would be formally conveyed to the Mandate Secretary of the Youth and Sports Secretariat, FCTA, for consideration.
