The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has said that while Governor Siminalayi Fubara remains the leader of the party in Rivers State, he must work in coordination with other critical stakeholders within the state to ensure unity and electoral success.
Professor Yilwatda made it clear that the national leadership of the APC will not impose any aspirant on the party during the Rivers State governorship primary election. According to him, the party is committed to a transparent and democratic process that allows party members to freely choose their candidate.
“I do not choose who to support in the state’s primary election,” the APC chairman stated. “If Fubara emerges as the APC candidate, I will support him. If he loses the primary, I will sympathise with him and go with the person who wins the primary election.”
He emphasized that internal democracy remains a core principle of the APC, noting that the party’s strength lies in respecting the will of its members and managing internal contests without acrimony. Yilwatda added that whoever emerges victorious from the primaries must be supported by all party stakeholders to present a united front ahead of the general election.
The APC national chairman further urged party members in Rivers State to place the collective interest of the party above personal ambitions, stressing that cohesion and cooperation are essential for the APC to remain competitive and effective in the state’s political landscape.
