The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zone E (North East), has commended the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaltungo, Gombe State, Dr Babale Gashuwa, and his management team for what it described as “strategic, reform-driven leadership” that has significantly repositioned the institution in line with international best practices.

In a statement issued on behalf of the Zone, NANS said the reforms implemented under Dr. Gashuwa’s leadership are consistent with the policy direction of the Federal Ministry of Education, particularly in the areas of technical and vocational education, quality assurance, infrastructural development, and globally competitive skills acquisition.
According to the association, the ongoing transformation of the Polytechnic reflects the Federal Government’s broader commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
“NANS observes that the progress recorded at the Federal Polytechnic under the leadership of Dr. Babale Ibrahim Gashuwa aligns perfectly with national education policies aimed at human capital development, youth empowerment, economic diversification, and sustainable national growth,” the statement read.
The student body also acknowledged the critical support provided by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), noting that their interventions in curriculum development, accreditation, staff training, and infrastructural renewal have contributed immensely to the institution’s improved academic and administrative standards.
Speaking on behalf of NANS Zone E, the newly elected Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Muazu Muhd Hina, called for enhanced and sustained support from key national development institutions, particularly the North East Development Commission (NEDC) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
“Sustained investments in infrastructure, research, technology, and capacity building are critical to consolidating the gains of ongoing reforms,” Hina said. “With the right level of strategic intervention and innovative funding support, Federal Polytechnics in the North East can compete favourably with international colleges across the world.”
He further stressed the importance of synergy among relevant agencies, adding that collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Education, TETFund, NBTE, and other stakeholders remains vital to achieving the Federal Government’s objectives on regional stabilization, skills development, and global competitiveness in the education sector.
NANS Zone E also expressed “full confidence and political support” for Dr. Gashuwa and his management team, describing their administration as progressive, transparent, and aligned with the aspirations of Nigerian students and the Federal Government’s reform agenda.
“We assure all stakeholders that NANS will continue to engage constructively, mobilise student support, and defend policies and programmes that promote quality education, institutional excellence, and national development,” the Association stated.
The Zone therefore urged the Federal Government, education authorities, and development partners to deepen collaboration and sustain support for the Federal Polytechnic, describing the institution as “a strategic national asset for human capital development and global competitiveness.”
