The Commanding Officer, 301 Artillery Regiment (AR) General Support (GS), Col. SO Beke, has hosted members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Gombe State Chapter, for a get-together aimed at fostering a stronger civil-military relationship.
The event provided an opportunity for military officers and media practitioners to interact and exchange views on issues of mutual interest.
It was marked by cordial engagements and a warm atmosphere, creating an enabling environment for building trust and cooperation between the two institutions.
In his welcome address, the Commanding Officer stressed the importance of collaboration between the military and the media, noting that journalists play a critical role in information dissemination, public awareness, and the promotion of national security.
He said constructive engagement with the media remains vital in ensuring accurate reporting and strengthening public confidence in military operations.
The Chairman of NUJ Correspondents’ chapel, Hudu Shehu, in his vote of thanks expressed appreciation for the invitation, describing the initiative as a step toward demystifying misconceptions and deepening understanding between the military and the public.
According to Shehu, sustained interaction between journalists and security agencies would enhance professionalism, responsible reporting, and peaceful coexistence.
The Chairman of Gombe NUJ Farouk Muazu, and immediate past chairperson of Correspondent Chapel Hajara Leman, were among those in attendance.
Others described the event as a success, expressing optimism that similar initiatives would be sustained to further strengthen civil-military relations in Gombe State.
The get-together featured informal discussions, networking, and refreshments, providing a relaxed setting for participants to engage freely with one another.
