The Gombe State Police Command on Friday announced the rescue of a kidnapped community leader, Hon. Hassan Reuben, and arrest of three suspected accomplices in connection with the crime.
The abduction, which occurred on January 20, 2026, involved Hon. Reuben, a resident of Nahuta Village, Tula, in Kaltungo Local Government Area of Gombe State.
According to the Police, information about the kidnapping was received at about 11:00 a.m. on January 21, prompting immediate security action.
Disclosing this Public Relations Officer DSP Buhari Abdullahi said, “Following swift action and sustained efforts, the victim was successfully rescued unhurt on the same date.”
The Command explained that the rescue operation was carried out through the combined efforts of police operatives from the Awak and Tula Divisions, with support from vigilantes and local hunters.
The victim was rescued at Tule Berbere, a location a few kilometres from Kunge Village in Awak District of Kaltungo Local Government Area.
“The victim was immediately taken to hospital for medical evaluation and has since rejoined his family safely,” the Abdullahi added.
In a related development, the Police disclosed that three women suspected to be spouses or accomplices of the kidnappers were arrested in the area where the victim was rescued.
The suspects were identified as Aisha Salihu, Fati Ado, and Adama Buba, all from Luga Edi Kamo, Awak, Kaltungo Local Government Area.
“The suspects claimed ignorance of their ages,” the Command noted, adding that investigations into the case are ongoing.
The Gombe State Police Command assured the public that further developments would be communicated as investigations continue, while reiterating its commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
