Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, on Saturday lauded the Nigerian Army’s efforts and contributions to the peace and stability of Nigeria.

Yahaya who was represented by his Special Adviser on Security, Alhaji Abubakar Aminu stated this, during the celebration of the Annual West African Social Activities (WASA) held in Gombe.

He said that the Nigerian Army had over the years shown their dedication to safeguarding lives and maintaining peace and stability.

Yahaya, who was the Special Guest of Honour at the event, said the professionalism and steadfastness shown by the army had ensured the comfort of Nigerians.

“I encourage you to remain steadfast, disciplined, and committed to excellence, loyalty to the nation, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to maintaining peace and security in the state and the nation at large,” he said.

The governor described WASA as a celebration of military heritage and a testament to unity through discipline and the enduring brotherhood that binds West African armies together.

He reaffirmed the state government’s continued support for the Armed Forces and other security agencies in the discharge of their constitutional duties.

In his address, the Commander, 301 Artillery Regiment, Gombe, Col. Suobor Beke, reaffirmed the army’s commitment to national security and unity.

Beke described WASA as a long-standing military tradition that promotes esprit de corps, strengthens morale among troops, and enhances cordial relations between the Army and the civilian population.

He commended officers and soldiers for their dedication, resilience, and sacrifices in the ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and property across the country.

The Commander also appreciated the support of the Gombe State Government and other stakeholders, noting that such collaboration remains vital to the success of military operations and peace-building initiatives.

The event was sponsored by Hara foam and Chemical Gombe, whose Managing Director, Mr Emmanuel Ugwu expressed pride in supporting the Nigerian Army.

Ugu stated that the company’s sponsorship was part of its commitment to corporate social responsibility and support for institutions working tirelessly to ensure a safe and secure society.

Our Correspondent reports that WASA is a long-standing military social and cultural tradition practised mainly by the Nigerian Army and some other West African armed forces.

Highlights of the celebration included cultural displays by various Army units, a tug-of-war between soldiers and their wives, displays of traditional dishes, and the presentation of souvenirs to guests.
