Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Yahaya, on Sunday reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding opportunities for women in governance and development.
In a message marking the International Women’s Day 2026, signed by Ismaila Misilli, Director-General Press Affairs Gombe Government House, the governor described women as critical partners in nation-building and pillars of social and economic development.
Yahaya noted that the annual celebration provides an opportunity to recognise the immense contributions of women to society while reflecting on the challenges they continue to face.
“International Women’s Day offers us the opportunity to celebrate the invaluable contributions of women to society and to renew our collective commitment to addressing the challenges they still encounter,” the governor said.
He assured that his administration would continue to implement policies and programmes aimed at expanding women’s access to opportunities, resources and support systems that address their unique needs.
The governor highlighted deliberate efforts by his government to promote inclusiveness through the appointment of women into key positions across the executive, legislative and judicial arms of government.
“Our administration believes strongly in gender mainstreaming and the empowerment of women as critical stakeholders in governance and development. We have therefore taken deliberate steps to appoint women into strategic positions across government,” he stated.
Yahaya encouraged women across the state to remain confident, resilient and focused, urging them to continue to utilise their talents and skills in contributing to societal growth.
“I urge women across our state to remain confident, focused and resilient, and to continue harnessing their talents, skills and natural nurturing abilities for the progress of our communities and our state,” he added.
The governor also commended the theme of this year’s celebration, “Rights, Justice and Action for All Women and Girls” and “Give to Gain,” noting that both highlight the importance of investing in women through education, mentorship and access to resources.
“Investing in women and girls through education, mentorship and access to opportunities is essential for building a stronger, more inclusive and equitable society,” he said.
Yahaya reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining programmes and policies that empower women and enable them to thrive as agents of positive change in their communities.
