A group of concerned residents of Gombe State has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint Alhaji Abdulkadir Mohammed as Minister of Transportation, following the resignation of former minister, Senator Ahmed Alkali.

In a statement issued in Gombe by Mohammed Kala and made available to journalists, the group argued that appointing a replacement from Gombe State would maintain regional balance, noting that the former minister hailed from the state.
The group described Alhaji Abdulkadir Mohammed, who currently serves as Gombe State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development as a seasoned administrator with a strong track record in public service.
He also holds the traditional title of Waziri Akko.
According to the statement, Mohammed has served in various capacities in the state, including as General Manager of Gombe Line and later as a Permanent Secretary before his retirement from the civil service.
He was also said to have contributed significantly to youth development during his tenure in the Ministry of Youths and Students Affairs.
The group further highlighted his role at the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), where he reportedly coordinated relief efforts and supported victims of disasters across the state.
Beyond his civil service career, Mohammed has served as Special Adviser to the state government in different capacities prior to his current appointment as commissioner.
The statement added that in his current role, he has demonstrated commitment to grassroots development and responsiveness to community needs, earning recognition from individuals and organisations for his contributions to humanitarian causes.
The group maintained that, given his experience and service record, Mohammed is well-qualified to fill the vacant position of Minister of Transportation.
