Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, on Saturday approved the appointment of a Chairman and Commissioners for the newly established Gombe State Electricity Regulatory Commission (GOSERC), in a move aimed at strengthening power sector governance and attracting investment into the state.
The appointments, which took effect from January 21, 2026, were earlier submitted to the Gombe State House of Assembly, which has since confirmed the nominees in line with the law establishing the Commission.
Announcing the development, the Secretary to Government of Gombe State, Ibrahim Njodi, said the constitution of the GOSERC leadership reflects the governor’s commitment to building a transparent and investor-friendly electricity market.
“The approval and subsequent confirmation of the GOSERC leadership team underscore His Excellency’s resolve to establish a robust and transparent regulatory framework that will drive sustainable growth in the power sector,” Njodi stated.
He added that the move aligns with emerging opportunities from the decentralisation of Nigeria’s electricity sector, positioning Gombe to take advantage of reforms aimed at improving service delivery and expanding access to power.
Those appointed include Dr. Usman Abba Arabi as Chairman; Engr. Sule Usman as Commissioner for Technical Regulation; Abubakar Sa’ad as Commissioner for Economic Regulation; Engr. Ahmed Ibrahim Pindiga as Commissioner for Rural Electrification; Lydia Ali as Commissioner for Finance and Administration; and Talatu Abubakar as Commissioner for Legal and Licensing.
Governor Yahaya expressed confidence in the capacity of the appointees to deliver on the mandate of the Commission.
“With the calibre of professionals appointed, the Commission is well-positioned to provide the regulatory backbone needed to enhance service delivery, enforce standards, protect consumers and attract investments into the state’s power sector,” the governor said.
He further noted that GOSERC would play a pivotal role in advancing ongoing reforms, particularly in expanding electricity access to underserved communities and supporting industrial growth.
“The Commission will serve as a critical institution in driving power sector reforms, boosting electricity access across both urban and rural communities, and accelerating the industrialisation and economic development of Gombe State,” Yahaya added.
The establishment of GOSERC is part of broader efforts by the Gombe State Government to reposition the energy sector for improved efficiency, reliability and inclusive growth.
