The Kano State Police Command has rescued a two-year-old kidnap victim unharmed, arrested three suspects and recovered N930,000 believed to be part of the ransom paid by the child’s family.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to the statement, the child, identified as Aliyu Aliyu Muhammad, was kidnapped on April 19, 2026, in front of his family residence at Gwammaja Quarters in Dala Local Government Area of the state.
The police said the abductors later contacted the family and demanded a ransom of N1m, which was paid.
Despite receiving the money, the suspects reportedly failed to release the child.
Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, directed the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad to deploy intelligence and operational assets to track the suspects.
The statement said sustained follow-up operations and technical surveillance led to the discovery of the suspects’ hideout and their subsequent arrest.
The suspects were identified as Hassan Umar, 26; Abdullahi Hamisu, 19; and Hussaini Saminu, 24, all residents of Gwammaja Quarters.
Investigation revealed that the victim was being held captive at the residence of Hussaini Saminu within the same neighbourhood.
“The two-year-old victim was successfully rescued unhurt and has since been reunited with his family,” the statement said.
Police also recovered N930,000, said to be part of the ransom collected from the family.
Bakori commended operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for what he described as professionalism, resilience and tactical precision in rescuing the child.
“The command will remain relentless in its fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes,” the commissioner said.
He warned criminal elements to stay away from Kano, stressing that the police would continue to deploy all lawful means to arrest and prosecute offenders.
Bakori also urged parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station.
The police said investigation into the case was ongoing and the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
