The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), on Monday commended philanthropist Alfred-John Attajiri for his impactful empowerment initiative targeting youths and students in Balanga and Biliri Local Government Areas of Gombe State.

In a statement signed by the NANS Zone E Coordinator, Muazu Hina, the association described the intervention valued at over ₦30 million as a significant investment in the future of young people in Gombe.

The programme saw numerous beneficiaries receive up to ₦500,000 each to support their education, businesses, and personal development.

“This remarkable gesture by Alfred-John Attajiri is a clear demonstration of selfless leadership and genuine commitment to grassroots development. At a time when many students and youths in Gombe State are grappling with economic hardship, this intervention has restored hope and inspired self-reliance among beneficiaries,” the statement read.

NANS noted that the initiative is particularly commendable as it comes from an individual who is not holding any public office, yet has shown exceptional dedication to human capital development.

“His actions reflect the kind of leadership Nigeria needs one that prioritises impact over position and invests meaningfully in the future of its young population,” the association added.

The student body called on politicians, business leaders, and other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate Attajiri’s example by prioritising youth and student empowerment, especially in states like Gombe where such interventions can significantly boost socio-economic growth.

NANS reiterated that empowering students and youths remains a critical pathway to sustainable national development and urged leaders at all levels to take deliberate steps toward improving the lives of young Nigerians.
