The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) on Tuesday expressed profound grief over the death of the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Zuru, who passed away in the early hours of Tuesday in Egypt.
In a condolence message, Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Yahaya, described the late Speaker’s death as a painful and monumental loss, not only to Kebbi State but to the entire northern region and Nigeria’s democratic and legislative community.
In a statement issued by the Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli, the governor said, “The passing of Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru is a painful and monumental loss, not only to Kebbi State but to the entire northern region and Nigeria’s democratic and legislative community.”
He described the late Speaker as a distinguished leader who contributed immensely to governance.
“He was an accomplished lawmaker, a stabilising force in governance, and a patriotic leader who served with uncommon commitment, wisdom, and humility.”
Governor Yahaya noted that Zuru’s legacy would endure through his contributions to democratic development.
“Rt. Hon. Zuru distinguished himself through selfless service, dedication to democratic ideals, and unwavering loyalty to the progress and development of Kebbi State.”
He extended condolences to the government and people of Kebbi State.
“On behalf of the Northern States Governors’ Forum, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Governor of Kebbi State, His Excellency Nasir Idris, the immediate family of the deceased, members of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, and the entire Zuru Emirate Council over this painful loss.”
The governor also offered prayers for the repose of the late Speaker’s soul.
“We pray that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings, rewards his lifetime of service to humanity, and grants him Aljannatul Firdaus.”
