The Gombe State Police Command on Thursday presented cheques worth over ₦31 million to families of deceased police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The presentation, held at the State Police Headquarters in Gombe, formed part of activities marking Day 4 of the National Police Day 2026 celebration.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Umar Chuso, said the initiative underscores the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the welfare of its personnel and their families.
“A total of 33 families of officers who paid the ultimate price in active service under the Gombe State Command will benefit from this gesture,” he said.
Chuso explained that the cheques, amounting to ₦31,042,662.28, were disbursed under the Group Life Assurance and Inspector-General of Police Welfare Schemes.
He noted that the support was provided on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, as part of ongoing efforts to improve the welfare and well-being of officers and men of the Force.
The commissioner expressed condolences to the families of the deceased officers, assuring them that their sacrifices would not be forgotten.
“We share in your grief and honour the courage and dedication of your loved ones who died in the service of our nation. Their sacrifices will continue to inspire us,” he added.
Chuso also reaffirmed the commitment of the police to supporting the families left behind, while urging members of the public to cooperate with security agencies in maintaining peace and security.
