The management of Gombe State University has confirmed the discovery of a day-old baby boy at the institution’s female hostel on Friday.

Confirming the incident during a brief telephone interview, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Napthali Hadu, described the development as unfortunate.
“I also heard about the unfortunate incident today in the school. I will get back to you as soon as I gather more details,” he said.
He disclosed that efforts were ongoing to uncover the perpetrator and ensure appropriate punishment.
“Security agencies are doing everything within their powers to fish out the perpetrator,” Hadu added.
Our correspondent reports that the dumping of newborn babies has become a recurring issue in the area. In September 2023, a similar incident occurred.
The baby has been taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe for proper care, while the school management has placed the hostel on lockdown to identify the perpetrator.
