A chieftain in Nasarawa State, Jonathan Markus Umbugu, on Friday formally declared his intention to contest for the seat of the House of Representatives representing Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections.

Umbugu, in a letter of intent addressed to stakeholders and supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC), which was made available to newsmen on Friday, said his aspiration is driven by a desire to provide people-oriented representation and ensure that the voices of his constituents are adequately reflected at the national assembly.

According to him, “I write to officially notify your esteemed personality my intent to aspire for the seat of member, representing the good people of Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections,” he stated.

He noted that his ambition is rooted in service to humanity, with a focus on grassroots impact, inclusive governance, and justice-driven legislation.
“This aspiration was birthed out of the desire to serve humanity by ensuring that the good people of my Federal Constituency have the impact of governance at the grassroots and a huge voice through quality representation,” Umbugu said.
The aspirant stressed the importance of the legislature in sustaining democracy, describing it as the arm of government responsible for articulating and implementing the will of the people.
“The legislative arm of government is the defining factor of democracy. It ensures the entrenchment and execution of the wills, aspirations and priorities of the people. Sadly, the reverse has been the case over the years,” he added.
Umbugu pledged to promote participatory lawmaking through regular consultations, including town hall meetings, to ensure that constituents’ views shape his legislative agenda.
“Through all-inclusive participatory legislation characterised by consultation of stakeholders, we will harness ideas and opinions that will form the priority of my representation.
“Human capital development is very critical to me. I will revolutionise it through encouragement of our children and youths in mass education, as well as empower constituents through MSMEs and skill acquisition programmes,” he said.
Umbugu also promised to focus on improving security and healthcare delivery across the constituency if elected. “Security of lives and property, alongside proper healthcare delivery, will be critical in my representation,” he assured.
Appealing for support, the aspirant said his leadership would be guided by selflessness, humility, and a strong connection with the people.
“Selflessness, humility and connecting with my constituents shall be my driving force. Let us join forces to bring this aspiration into reality,” he said.
