The National Co-Chair of the NDC Coalition Alliance Network (NDC-CAN), Zakari Burra, on Sunday faulted comments allegedly made by former Nigeria Health Insurance Service official, Prof. Yusuf Usman, advising Nigerians not to trust the proposed 2027 political alliance involving Mr. Peter Obi and Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Recall that the the duo recently announced their defection to NDC from the African Democratic Congress.
In a press statement issued on behalf of the coalition, Burra said integrity and credibility in public service should be based on transparency and accountability rather than “political propaganda or media attacks against opposition figures.”
According to him, “It is unfortunate that individuals with unresolved public credibility concerns continue to position themselves as moral authorities in national discourse.”
The coalition further referenced past controversies involving negotiations with bandits and terrorists, alleging that some public officials “reportedly went into forests to engage criminal elements and returned freely under questionable circumstances.”
“These matters remain part of public discourse and deserve honest explanations, not diversionary political statements,” the statement added.
Burra also alleged that Nigerians had not forgotten “the history of EFCC investigations, allegations of looted public funds, and court matters associated with some public officials who now seek to lecture citizens on integrity.”
He said such issues “remain within public memory and ongoing judicial attention.”
The NDC-CAN accused unnamed political actors of attempting to “mislead or brainwash Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.”
“As a coalition committed to democratic values, accountability, and national progress, NDC-CAN strongly rejects attempts by paid political agents and desperate actors to mislead Nigerians,” Burra stated.
He maintained that Nigerian youths and citizens had become more politically conscious and would no longer be swayed by propaganda.
“Nigerians are tired of recycled propaganda, failed leadership, and attempts to suppress the desire for genuine national transformation,” he said.
Burra added that the coalition would continue to mobilise citizens “lawfully and democratically in defense of good governance, credible leadership, and the future of the nation.”
“Nigeria has changed. The people are wiser now, and no amount of propaganda can silence the voice of a determined generation,” the statement concluded.
