The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday canvassed greater collaboration among government ministries, agencies and civil society organisations, to ensure the effective implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) on human rights in Borno State.

Tony Ojukwu, the commission’s Executive Secretary, made the call at the opening of a one-day training for stakeholders, in collaboration with Tridose Global Concepts Ltd, held in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

According to him, the training aimed to strengthen the promotion and protection of human rights across the state with participants drawn from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.

Ojukwu, represented by the commission’s State Coordinator in Borno State, Jummai Mshellia, highlighted that the training focused on implementing the 2026 NAP on Human Rights in Borno Sttand calleding for stronger collaboration among all stakeholders to implement the action plan on human rights.

The National Action Plan consultative forum meeting taking place in Borno state enjoins each NAP desk officer in various MDAs and CSOs to ensure the full implementation of NAP for the respect and promotion of human rights within their organisations. My call to all MDAs and CSOs is to ensure the full implementation and compliance with the NAP in their respective offices.

She noted that the process cut across multiple stages, including consultations with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Civil Society participation, and deliberations by steering and coordinating committees.

“The extensive and inclusive nature of this process ultimately culminated in the adoption of the National Action Plan (2024–2028), reflecting a renewed and more comprehensive commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights in Nigeria.

“It has become important to monitor and evaluate implementation activities across agencies by identifying operational challenges and strengthening implementation strategies where necessary.”She disclosed.

Kaka Usman Gaji, NAP Desk Office, State Ministry of Justice, assured that the state government would partner with NHRC to ensure full implementation in all MDAs across the state.
