The Royal Organizing Committee has announced that the 2026 edition of the Gombe Emir’s Cup football competition will commence on Saturday, June 13, at the Pantami Township Stadium, Gombe.
According to a statement issued by the Chairman of the Media Committee, Comrade Abdulazeez Sani Labaran, the tournament is expected to bring together football enthusiasts, clubs, and supporters from across the state in what organizers describe as a celebration of sportsmanship, talent, and unity.
Speaking ahead of the opening ceremony, the Chairman of the Royal Organizing Committee and sponsor of the competition, Hon. Ahmed Shuaibu Gara-Gombe, said the tournament would provide an opportunity for young footballers to showcase their talents while fostering peace and social cohesion.
“The Gombe Emir’s Cup is more than a football competition. It is a platform for youth engagement, talent discovery, and community integration. We are committed to making this year’s edition entertaining, educational, and memorable for participants and spectators alike,” Gara-Gombe said.
He urged football lovers and residents of the state to turn out in large numbers to support the competing teams and encourage the development of grassroots sports.
Also speaking, the Director of Organization of the Royal Organizing Committee, Haruna Isah Kalshingi, said all arrangements had been concluded for a successful opening ceremony and smooth conduct of the tournament.
“We have put the necessary structures in place to ensure a hitch-free competition. We invite clubs, supporters, and the general public to be part of this historic sporting event,” he said.
The competition, which is sponsored by Hon. Ahmed Shuaibu Gara-Gombe, Founder and Team Lead of Green White Green Sport Limited, will officially kick off at 3:00 p.m. at the Pantami Township Stadium.
