The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled a stringent anti-defection policy requiring all its candidates for elective positions in the 2027 general elections to sign indemnity and affidavit forms undertaking to surrender their mandates if they defect from the party after securing victory at the polls.
The policy stipulates that any candidate elected on the NDC platform who subsequently defects to another political party will be deemed to have forfeited the office won under the party’s banner.
The directive cuts across all categories of candidates, including the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The development marks one of the party’s strongest internal measures aimed at enforcing party discipline and stemming the tide of post-election defections that have continued to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.
