In a world where economic uncertainty, moral pressures and social distractions increasingly test the resolve of families, the Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, believes the timeless answer to lasting success remains unchanged—absolute obedience to God.

Speaking at the opening of the three-day 6th Abuja Christian Men’s Fellowship Convention at the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Life Camp, Gwarinpa, Abuja, the Primate called on Christian men to rediscover the transforming power of faithful obedience, describing it as the pathway to enduring blessings that transcend generations.

The convention commenced with a solemn Eucharistic Service and is built around the theme, “A Man Who Walks in Obedience,” drawn from Genesis 22:1-19—the biblical account of Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his beloved son, Isaac, in complete submission to God’s command.

Addressing bishops, clergy, church leaders and delegates from across the Federal Capital Territory, Ndukuba reflected on Abraham’s extraordinary journey of faith, presenting the patriarch as an enduring model for Christian men navigating the complexities of modern life.

According to the Primate, Abraham’s greatest achievement was not his wealth or status but his unwavering confidence in God, demonstrated through his readiness to surrender what was most precious to him.

Before God’s covenant promises blossomed fully in Abraham’s life, the aged patriarch saw Isaac as the fulfilment of his hopes and the continuation of his legacy. Yet when God demanded that sacrifice, Abraham obeyed without hesitation.

That singular act of obedience, Ndukuba observed, transformed Abraham into a vessel of divine blessings whose influence continues to shape generations across the world.

He noted that Abraham occupies a unique place in human history, revered not only within Christianity but also in Judaism and Islam, making his life a universal testimony to the rewards of complete trust in God.

For the Primate, Abraham’s story offers a profound lesson for believers facing life’s inevitable trials.

Challenges, he explained, should not be viewed merely as hardships but as opportunities through which God refines character and deepens faith.

“Trials are part of our earthly journey,” he told the congregation. “God often uses them to test and strengthen our faith. What Abraham experienced brought out the very best in him because he chose obedience over fear and faith over doubt.”

Drawing practical lessons from the biblical narrative, Ndukuba urged Christian men to change their perspective on adversity, insisting that many obstacles become stepping stones to greater accomplishments when approached with unwavering faith.

His message resonated against the backdrop of Nigeria’s prevailing economic realities, where rising living costs, unemployment and financial uncertainty continue to place enormous pressure on families.

Rather than yielding to despair, he encouraged believers to remain steadfast, expressing confidence that God’s faithfulness remains constant even in difficult times.

He reminded participants that throughout biblical history, God consistently honoured individuals who remained obedient despite overwhelming odds.

Beyond inspiring words, the Primate outlined practical principles that can help Christian men cultivate lives of faithful discipleship.

The first, he said, is developing the discipline of listening carefully to God’s voice while resisting the many distractions competing for attention in today’s fast-paced society.

Secondly, he emphasised consistency in spiritual devotion, urging participants to sustain vibrant prayer lives and establish regular family altars that nurture faith within the home.

“Consistency is vital,” he stressed. “Build your altar and remain steadfast in prayer every day.”

Finally, he challenged every Christian man to make obedience the defining characteristic of his relationship with God.

“Let Abraham be your case study,” he urged. “Do not allow disobedience to rob you of the blessings God has prepared for you.”

His message underscored the pivotal role of men as spiritual leaders whose decisions influence not only their personal lives but also the future of their families, churches and communities.

The convention, which continues through the weekend, features Bible teaching, leadership development sessions, fellowship activities and corporate prayers designed to strengthen men for effective Christian service and responsible leadership.

Organisers say the annual gathering seeks to inspire participants to embrace lives characterised by faith, integrity, discipline and obedience, qualities they believe are urgently needed in a society grappling with social, economic and moral challenges.

For many delegates, the opening sermon established the spiritual direction for the convention, serving as a reminder that genuine success is measured not merely by material accomplishments but by a life surrendered to God’s will.

As participants continue in worship, learning and fellowship, the enduring example of Abraham remains the central challenge—to trust God completely, obey without reservation and leave behind a legacy of faith that will bless generations yet unborn.
