The Taraba State Government, through the Taraba State Environmental and Sanitation Agency (TSESA), has commenced the clearance of drainage channels across 16 local government areas to avert possible flooding in the state.

Chairman of the agency, Hon. Iliya Kefas, told journalists during a sanitation tour on Tuesday that the exercise was in line with Governor Agbu Kefas’ commitment to ensuring a clean, healthy environment and improved sanitation across the state’s townships.
Hon. Kefas also disclosed that the governor had approved funds for the evacuation of waste and the clearance of all blocked drainage channels across the state.
He added that the agency had also begun spraying herbicides along roadsides to clear bushes and improve pedestrian safety by reducing the presence of harmful reptiles and rodents.

“Through the agency, Governor Agbu Kefas has approved funds to ensure cleanliness across townships in the state, to avert flooding and promote a healthy environment.
“We have engaged thousands of youths. Some are involved in sweeping, others in clearing blocked drainage channels, while others are spraying herbicides along the roadsides,” Hon. Iliya said.
Meanwhile, residents commended Governor Kefas for the initiative, noting that it has significantly improved environmental hygiene across the state’s townships.
They called for the exercise to be sustained to achieve its intended objectives.
