The Secretary to Government of Gombe State, Prof. Ibrahim Njodi, has cautioned staff of the Gombe State Liaison Office in Kaduna against poor work ethics, warning that the administration of Governor Muhammadu Yahaya will not tolerate absenteeism, truancy or redundancy in the civil service.
Njodi gave the warning during a visit to the liaison office on Monday, where he interacted with members of staff and inspected facilities at the premises.
The visit coincided with the Annual General Meeting of the New Nigerian Development Company Limited, holding in Kaduna.
Addressing the staff, the SGS described any display of nonchalance towards official duties as unacceptable, stressing that public servants must justify the confidence reposed in them through productivity.
“On no account should any member of staff in this liaison office display a nonchalant attitude towards government business. Gone are the days when civil servants receive salaries with little or no productivity,” Njodi said.
He reminded the workers that the state government maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards indiscipline in the civil service.
“The administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has zero tolerance for any civil servant whose stock-in-trade is absenteeism, truancy and the flagrant abuse of civil service rules and regulations,” he added.
The SSG directed all members of staff to submit their individual job descriptions to his office on or before the close of work on Friday, saying the exercise was aimed at improving accountability and efficiency.
Earlier, the Acting Liaison Officer, Bilhatu Latile, said the Kaduna Liaison Office has 13 members of staff serving in the guest house, office complex and staff quarters.
She appealed to the state government to renovate the facility.
“We appeal to the Gombe State Government, through the Secretary to the State Government, to consider giving the liaison office a facelift to improve the working environment and the condition of the facilities,” Latile said.
