Armed Fulani herdsmen on Wednesday killed a 43-year-old man, Mkaave Demekpe Upav, in Peva community, Chanchaji Council Ward of Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Eyewitnesses told journalists that the victim was killed on his farm while his wife was abducted and taken to an unknown destination.
The eyewitnesses, Tor Aondongu and Mkav Tilenen, said the herders had brought a large herd of cattle to graze on the deceased’s farmland.
“The Fulanis came with a large number of cattle and were grazing on the deceased’s farm, close to where we were weeding groundnuts. He approached them with his wife, pleading with them to move the cattle out of his growing crops.
“The Fulanis immediately shot him and took his wife away. We saw everything that happened, but we could not intervene because we feared for our lives, so we fled,” the eyewitnesses narrated.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that Chanchaji community has suffered repeated attacks allegedly carried out by armed Fulani herdsmen since 2025, with more than 300 people reportedly killed.
